Between The Posts is a blog aimed at informing prospective sports industry interns of the opportunities presented to young people in the sports industry. In addition to profiling internship related material, Between The Posts also acts as a snapshot of the day to day interactions that the RiverKings interns face.

This blog will profile various Interns in the Mississippi RiverKings front office, detailing their responsibilities, but also their interests, and their excursions into the Mid-South region. In addition to providing internship related information, Between The Posts also seeks to help sports industry interns gain a better understanding of the industry in which they work, and ultimately hope to build their career. The Calm After the Storm

Hey there guys, Donnie Shea here writing again. It's been almost a month since my last post and there's been a lot going on since then. After having seven games in my first three weeks, we've only had one since then. You may imagine that the past few weeks have been extremely slow due to that, which is both right and wrong.

When we have games every weekend, we have to worry about the having everything set up and ready to go. Without games to prepare for, we have had more time in the office to make calls, send emails, and look forward to next year.

I began making calls based on a leads sheet that we have compiled using our Puck Toss. Making these calls has forced me to step outside of my comfort zone, as I am not used to calling random people and talking to them about their experience at a RiverKings game. Though I still struggle to pick up the phone and actually make the call most of the time, I have noticed myself becoming more comfortable once I am actually on the phone.

Last week I was put in charge of managing donations. This means responding to donation requests, having them filled, and filing them away so that we have a running record of all the things that we have given out. It may not seem like much, but donations are a huge part of community development and image with any organization, especially in the sports world.

The team is finally back home this weekend for two more games. The weekends off have definitely been relaxing, but it will be nice to get back into the swing of things and see some the team and fans. Saturday is one of our biggest games of the season as we host our Heroes Night honoring real-life heroes - military, police officers, fire fighters, first responders, etc.

And that'll wrap up another blog post. I hope to see some of you at a game in the near future and I will be back writing in a few short weeks!
