Push to the Post-Season: Academically and Literally

Jake here again. The other interns have talked about the past couple of weeks, referencing the nearly three weeks that passed between our home game in early February, and this past weekend's games against Macon. You'll hear no complaints from me, as the time off afforded me plenty of time to turn to some of the projects I've had on my plate for the past couple of months.

Finishing up my MBA, with planned graduation in just over two months, I'm in the final swing of my course on Content Marketing. I've decided to develop a brief content marketing plan around our organization, looking at the opportunities present for growth in that particular field. While it's ultimately a rather abstract concept, it was rewarding to take the knowledge that i've been applying here in the office and put it to something so structured and business oriented. The final presentation is tonight. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it all goes well.

Here in the office, another project took form in early January. Dave approached me about compiling a record book for the team, as that kind of record keeping hadn't been done since 2011, when the RiverKings made the jump from the CHL to the SPHL. For the past two months, i've been digging for stats across several outlets and have now seen my work come to fruition, as the team now boasts record books across three eras on their website (CHL, SPHL, and All Time). Needless to say, though the research was time consuming, the learning curve for fact finding and stats-generation diminished significantly as the process went on. Now, the record books will be updated weekly, and we have some significant historic information to discuss on the air, as well as a nice piece for the fans to enjoy.

Broadcasting is becoming more and more enjoyable as I continue to learn the finer points of the trade. If there's any trend that I have noticed, it's that there's a direct correlation between the amount of time we have off between games, and the quality of my performance. Needless to say, Saturday's game was much better than Friday's, especially after a 3 week hiatus. Naturally, it's a skill that i'll continue to pursue.

We are winding our way to the playoffs, and nothing seems more exciting that the notion of our team making a title push. Heres to hoping the season finishes strong!
