My First Week

Hello, future intern! This is Austin Brown for my first blog post.

Off To a Quick Start

I just had my first week as a Mississippi RiverKings Intern. Coming from Florida the very first thing I had to learn was how to de-ice my car and make it to the office on time. When I got here, we immediately had a Monday morning meeting that allowed me to acclimate myself with the primary concerns of the organization from a business standpoint and be able to meet all of my new coworkers. David then took me to look over our website and the internal workings of keeping up the web page. That is when I created my bio (I also learned how to use hyperlinks within the website, as you can see above by clicking my name) and instantly felt part of the team.

As the day went on, I began to look over pricing strategies and get to know Andrew the other intern in the office at the time. He helped me go over different items that are done with tickets and their promotions that have to be done every Monday following game weekends, such as organize deals and promotional items used on ticket sales.

Practicing the Basics

For the rest of the week, I worked with various members of the office in constructing a leads sheet and they taught me how to make outgoing sales calls and constructing business emails to prospective clients. I have done sales in the past, but never on the phone, so I had nerves as you could imagine. After the first call I I had minor success in reaching out to local groups, and positive feedback on the customer service calls about their visits for games. From the first week, I can tell that I am going to enjoy my experience, and as I look forward to our first game this Friday, I know I have much to learn.
