Another One

Andrew Kiepe

Hey guys,

I probably could start this off with an Adele reference and say "Hello," but for all intents and purposes I will spare you. So, I'll just give you a straight..."What's up?"

Another One

Has it already been a month since I last wrote about my experiences? I'm at the point in my internship where I find days and months running together. Every time a new month approaches I just imagine DJ Khaled saying "another one!"

Always! Always! Be Aware of Your Surroundings

Always! Always! Always! I will say it one more time to stress my point. Always be aware of your surroundings. The manner in which you present yourself is the most important thing to do in a business setting. You never know when an opportunity might be standing right in front of you.

Perfect example, I was working the sales table at a game a few weeks ago and I had a person who had a few questions. I found out she was interested in possibly renting a suite! I obtained all her information and called this person the next day. I was able to turn that one small interaction into a massive sale (to put it in perspective, it's 21 times bigger than any sale I've made here). This is probably my proudest moment in my entire professional career. If I had not been aware of my surroundings that might not have ever happened.

Box Office Fun

Over the last month, I have gotten more experience in the box office. I have been learning the importance of organizing will call accounts. The last thing you want is to have someone come to pick up the tickets they have bought and them not be there. We have only had one game in which the box office was completely nuts.

The St. Jude night  gave me experience in a high-stress environment. We had a company purchase a bulk number of tickets. They then distributed the tickets through us and our will call. The main problem we had was the confusion on our policies to receive tickets in will call. We would have groups of people show up without their group president saying they had tickets, but to pick up tickets they have to have the group leader present to receive the tickets. It led to long lines at will call. To overcome these problems I had to show my true concern and explain the will call policies. Experiences like this have given me the opportunity to work on my customer service abilities.

Face Off Field Trip

Of course my favorite event we host is our Face Off Field Trip.  The pre-work for this game is unlike any other game. We have to work with strict schedules and deadlines to pull it off. The day before is one of my favorite parts, because of the organizing our slapper and booklet promotional items in the appropriate places. We would organize the number of items by the expected students based on the section(s) the school would be sitting in. The day of was a blast. I escorted classes in from the buses and seat them in their sections. This allowed me to enhance my game day event experience. I was able to efficiently process the inflow of thousands of fans into the stadiums while handing out promotional items.
