SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- Mississippi RiverKings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Derek Landmesser announced today that the team has re-signed forward Matt Whitehead. Terms and conditions were not released.

"Whitey is a game changer," said Landmesser. "Not only is he a great player on the ice, but he's also a great person in the locker room and his teammates have a lot of respect for him."

After a productive season with the 'Kings last year, Whitehead is ready for the team to take it to the next level.

"I expect us to be one of the powerhouse teams in the league; a team that others teams don't want to play," said Whitehead. "With the new guys we have coming in this year and our returning players, I'm excited about what we can do this season."

The London, Ont. native came to the RiverKings last season in a trade from Fayetteville on January 18. The third-year-professional forward netted 15 goals and 21 assists in 28 games for the RiverKings.

RiverKings season tickets are on sale now for the 2012-13 season. Season tickets start at just $9 per game and are available by calling the front office at 662-342-1755.

The Mississippi RiverKings are supported by their community partners, season ticket holders, fans, and by program-related investments of the Maddox Foundation, an independent private foundation based in Hernando, Miss.
