Whitehead Named Easton Player of the Week

HUNTERSVILLE, NC – The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced Matt Whitehead of the Mississippi RiverKings is the Easton Player of the Week for February 11-17.

Whitehead scored one goal, assisted on six others and was +5 as the RiverKings won two of three games last week.

On Thursday, Whitehead scored the first goal of the game and assisted on the overtime game-winner as the RiverKings rallied for a 3-2 win over the Mississippi Surge. Whitehead had an assist in a 4-3 loss to Louisiana on Friday before finishing the week with four assists in Mississippi’s 5-1 win over the IceGators on Saturday.

A native of London, Ontario who played four years of college hockey at SUNY-Oswego, Whitehead is second in the SPHL with seven power-play goals while his 18 goals rank fifth overall. Whitehead is also seventh in the league in points (40). In the 2010-2011 season, Whitehead became the first player in SPHL history to record hat tricks on consecutive nights when he scored three times against Mississippi on November 26 and Louisiana on November 27.
