Veteran NHL Referee to Oversee SPHL Officiating

September 5, 2013

HUNTERSVILLE, NC – The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today that Mark Faucette, who spent 20 years as a referee in the NHL, has been named the league’s new Director of Officiating.

“I am sincerely honored and excited to become a member of the SPHL, a league with strong ownership who is committed to improving competitively every season, and a league that provides a venue for developing players, coaches, and officials at the professional level," said Faucette.

Faucette, who joined the NHL in 1985, worked 918 regular season games, 72 Stanley Cup Playoff contests and was selected to referee at the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan. Faucette also officiated the 1996 NHL All-Star Game in Boston and the International Ice Hockey Federation's first World Cup of Hockey that same year.

“On behalf of the Board of Governors, we are excited to have Mark Faucette take over the officiating for the SPHL,” added SPHL President Jim Combs. “Mark's passion for the game and for developing young officials is without question going to take us to the next level.”
