Three Games in Three Days for 'Kings

WHAT ROAD CURSE?: The RiverKings defeated the Pensacola Ice Flyers 4-3 in their first road win of the season Saturday. The ‘Kings bounced back after losing 7-0 to the Ice Flyers the previous night. The win extended the RiverKings record to 5-4-2. Goaltender David Wilson picks up the win saving 40 of 43 shots on net. RiverKings Patrick Gaul had a three-point-game as he scored a goal in the first period and gained two assists on goals from Jeremy Dawes and Darrell Stoddard.

MOVEMBER MUSTACHE: Join us Friday night for Mustache Awareness night! We are celebrating the end of Movember and the first 1,000 fans through the door get their own mustache to wear during the game!

BATTLE OF MISSISSIPPI: Friday night the ‘Kings take on the in-state rival Mississippi Surge at the Landers Center. This is the third time the two teams have met this season. The last time they met, the Surge defeated the RiverKings with a score of 4-3. The Surge are currently one spot behind the ‘Kings in 6th place in the league with a record of 5-4-1.

VIEW FROM BILOXI: Before heading to Southaven, the Mississippi Surge (5-4-1) will make their way to Huntsville to take on the Havoc (3-7-1) Thursday night. The Surge are coming off a 4-0 win against the Louisiana IceGators last weekend. Tommy Lange had three points in the game, tallying two assists and a goal. Goaltender Dan Clark picked up the shutout, stopping all 18 shots on net. The Surge will be without center Matt Gordon and and defenseman Cole Ruwe. The two were placed on the 30-day IR on November 26.

BARCZUK TO BLOOMINGTON: Mississippi RiverKings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Derek Landmesser announced Monday that forward Daniel Barczuk has been loaned to the Bloomington Blaze of the Central Hockey League. Barczuk, 24, appeared in 11 games with the RiverKings, tallying eight points (4G, 4A). The 6'1" 193 lbs. forward from Livonia, Mich. joins a Blaze team currently in third place in the CHL.

POTOTSCHNIK PLAYING: Prior to last weekend's games, the RiverKings activated forward Anthony Pototschnik from the 30-day IR. Pototschnik registered five penalty minutes in his first action as a RiverKing. To make room for Potostchnik, the RiverKings placed forward Kevin Fukala on the 30-day IR.

WELCOME COLUMBUS: The ‘Kings take on the Columbus Cottonmouths for the first time this season Saturday night. Last year, the two teams met a total of five games and the RiverKings posted a 4-1 record. Columbus is currently seventh in the league with a record of 3-5-1.

VIEW FROM COLUMBUS: The Columbus Cottonmouths (3-5-1) will take on the Huntsville Havoc Friday before making their way to Southaven Saturday night. Columbus is coming off of a 4-1 loss against the number one Fayetteville FireAntz last weekend. Columbus got on the board first with a goal from Jordan Braid in the second period of play, but Fayetteville scored four unanswered goals to take the win. Goaltender Ian Vigler picked up his third loss of the season saving 30 of 33 shots on net. 

ON THE ROAD AGAIN: After the home game series this Friday and Saturday, the ‘Kings travel to Lafayette, Louisiana to take on the IceGators Sunday at 3:05 pm. You can catch the game on Sports 56 and 87.7FM.

VIEW FROM LOUISIANA: The IceGators have two games to tackle before the RiverKings make their way to Lafayette.  The IceGators battle the Pensacola IceFlyers Friday night and the Mississippi Surge Saturday night. Sunday's game will be number three that weekend for both the 'Kings and the IceGators. Louisiana took the loss in their only game last weekend, a 4-0 defeat from the Mississippi Surge. Goaltender Jesse Kallechy picked up the loss, saving 27 of 31 shots on goal.
