Hosmer's Late Goal Lifts RiverKings 2-1

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- Todd Hosmer’s game-winning goal with four minutes remaining in the third period gave the Mississippi RiverKings (11-9-3) a one-goal lead to defeat the Huntsville Havoc (7-14-1) 2-1 at the Landers Center Sunday night. 

The first 30 minutes of play went by scoreless until the 10:11 mark of the second period. RiverKings captain Darrell Stoddard beat Jonathan LaRose with a shot from behind the net. Stoddard’s 11th goal of the season gave the 'Kings the lead heading into the second intermission.

Huntsville had three power play opportunities in the second period, but the RiverKings held them scoreless. Early in the third, Huntsville tied it up. Aaron McGill’s wrist shot beat David Wilson blocker side to tie the game at one just 3:02 into the final period of play.

A turnover in the slot gave the 'Kings a one-goal lead. Todd Hosmer netted his ninth goal of the season on a pass from Jeremy Dawes to beat LaRose blocker side at the 15:10 mark of the third period. The game-winning goal from Hosmer extended his point-scoring streak to eight games, currently the longest in the league. 

David Wilson (4-4-1) stopped 31 of 32 shots against in the win. Jonathan LaRose (1-4-0) turned away 26 of 28 shots on net.

The RiverKings are on the road again as they travel to Biloxi, Mississippi Wednesday December 26 to take on the Mississippi Surge.
