Teddy Bear Toss nets over 580 toys

SOUTHAVEN, Miss – While the Mississippi RiverKings took two of four points from the league-leading Pensacola Ice Flyers this past weekend, the team made a community impact on the ice as well.

The RiverKings held their annual Teddy Bear Toss December 13 at the Landers Center and encouraged fans to bring a new stuffed animal to the game. Fans tossed their stuffed animals onto the ice at the end of the second period and they were collected and donated to Toys for Tots to be distributed to kids in need in the local area. The RiverKings and Toys for Tots collected over 580 toys during the game.

Last season the RiverKings collected just over 300 bears for Toys for Tots.

"The Teddy Bear Toss is an event I look forward to every year," RiverKings Director of Business Operations David Schmoll said. "This game is a perfect blend of entertainment and charity. It allows us to connect with the community in a unique way."

The RiverKings are back home Tuesday, Dec. 23 for "Festivus" Night. The RiverKings celebrate the holiday "for the rest of us" and fans wearing a tacky sweater can buy one ticket and get one of equal value for free, available at the Landers Center Box Office. Single-game tickets can be purchased at riverkings.com/ticketmaster and groups of 15 or more get a discount, with group tickets starting at $8 per ticket, by calling the front office at 662-342-1755.
