Sutliffe tallies two points in finale loss

PEORIA, Ill. -- Brad Barone made 23 saves and Derek Sutliffe had two points, but the Mississippi RiverKings (32-21-3) fell in their regular season finale 4-2 to the Peoria Rivermen (32-13-11) on Saturday night in Peoria.

The Rivermen took the lead near the midway point of the first. Donald Olivieri rifled a shot through traffic that beat RiverKings' netminder Brad Barone to put Peoria ahead 1-0 at the 12:43 mark of the opening frame.

Peoria added to their lead in the second. Connor Gorman one-timed a pass from Jeff Jones past Barone to put the Rivermen ahead 2-0. At the 13:12 mark of the middle frame, Ryan Keller deflected a pass from Mike Colantone to the back of the net, giving Peoria a 3-0 lead.

The RiverKings responded late in the period. Mike Moran ripped a pass from Derek Sutliffe to beat Storm Phaneuf and cut the RiverKings' defecit to 3-1 with 11 seconds left in the second.

In the third, Peoria regained their three-goal lead. Gorman tallied his second of the game when he forced a turnover in the RiverKings' zone and scored from the right circle to put Peoria up 4-1.

The RiverKings fought back. Cody Castro's initial shot on Phaneuf was stopped, but Derek Sutliffed slid the rebound past the Rivemen goaltender to bring the visitors within two, but it was not enough as the RiverKings fell 4-2 in Peoria.

Brad Barone (19-14-2) took the loss after stopping 23 of 27 shots against. Storm Phaneuf (13-5-3) picked up the win after turning aside 28 of 30 shots.
