BILOXI, Miss. – The Mississippi RiverKings (8-3-1) saw their point streak come to an end after falling 3-2 to the Mississippi Surge (7-5-0) on Wednesday night.

The Surge struck first in the opening period. Bill Baker took a rebound and beat Dan McWhinney 12:55 into the game to put the home team ahead heading into the first intermission.

After a back and forth start to the period, the RiverKings answered back. Tom Craig tallied his second of the season on a wraparound to tie the game at one just over five minutes into the second.

But the Surge regained the lead on a power play goal from Luke Greiner near the midway point of the frame. Mark Thorburn added to the lead with just over five minutes left in the frame when his shot went over a diving McWhinney to give the Surge a 3-1 lead.

Late in the third, with the RiverKings on a power play, Andrew Randazzo notched his third goal in as many games as he beat Dan Clarke on a slap shot from the point to close the gap to one. After a scoreless third, the RiverKings fell in regulation for the first time in eight games, 3-2 to the Surge.

Dan McWhinney (4-3-0) took the loss after stopping 29 of 32 shots against. Dan Clarke (1-3-0) turned aside 32 of 34 shots against in the win.

The RiverKings hit the ice on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. Central Time in Columbus to take on the Cottonmouths. Be sure to catch all the action at Old Style BBQ, the Official Away Game Watch Party Headquarters of the RiverKings, or tune in on Sports 56 and 87.7FM.
