GERMANTOWN, Tenn. – RiverKings’ mascot Sheldon the turtle showed off his goalie skills at the Summer Sports Camp in Germantown, as part of the “Sticks are for Kids” program on Thursday, June 27, 2013.

RiverKings’ personnel taught the children about the basics of hockey and the safety precautions that go along with the game, before the campers hit the floor for a game of their own.

“It is a pleasure to have the RiverKings come to the camp and teach our kids about the game of hockey,” camp director Patrick Peavy said. “Many of these kids have never participated in hockey and this gives them a great opportunity to learn about the game.”

The Summer Sports Camp is hosted by the Germantown United Methodist Church and is held for one week, twice per summer. The next camp will be held July 22-26 from 9am to 2pm. For more information, contact Patrick Peavy at 901-753-3100 or ppeavy@germantownumc.org.

The “Sticks Are For Kids” program allows the RiverKings to get out in the community and teach children the basics of hockey, and facilitate and supervise hockey scrimmages. The RiverKings provide all equipment and instruction required.

If you would like Sheldon to make a visit to your school, organization or event, please contact Caitlyn Hutchins (communitydevelopment@riverkings.com) or call 662-342-1755.
