OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. -- For the third time in a month, RiverKings mascot Sheldon the turtle joined kids at Camp B.O.L.D. in summer fun, including hockey scrimmages and other activities.

On June 26, 2013, Sheldon greeted the children, ages 3-5,  during their fun time in the gym, joining them in bounce houses and other games. Sheldon also visited other rooms that included kids enjoying crafts and music.

On July 10 and July 17, Sheldon brought the team's Sticks Are For Kids program in which the RiverKings teach the participants hockey basics and supervise scrimmages that allowed the kids to play themselves.

"Camp B.O.L.D. is a camp for children with disabilities, particularly autism," Camp Director Brenna Nye stated. "Each camper is paired with a peer counselor and together they enjoy several activities such as art, music, moon bounces, and a water day. This year the camp has been lucky enough to host over 100 campers over a span of 3 weeks.

"The kids loved Sheldon. They lit up when he came in the room and many of the children were quite fond of him. We are so lucky to have the RiverKings come each year and be such a great help!"

Camp B.O.L.D., an event for children with Autism Spectrum disorders, is held annually at Longview Heights Baptist Church in Olive Branch, Miss. The acronym stands for Balance, Opportunity, Learning and Determination. Each session lasts from 8 a.m. to noon and the students are divided among age groups.
