Sharks drill the competition en route to the championship

HERNANDO, Miss. – The Family Dentistry Sharks took a bite out of the Superior Health and Wellness Blue Blaze to win the 2015 Jr. StreetKings Spring Championship.

The 2015 Spring season began in April, with the Blue Blaze’s first win of the season. From that point the Sharks dominated, losing only two games throughout the ten game season.

The Super Drugs Cyclones entered the playoffs with the second best record in the regular season and faced off against the Blue Blaze in the semifinal. Cyclones third-liner Austin Shurden erupted for four goals in the second period but it wasn’t enough, as the Blue Blaze won 13-10.

With the win, the Blue Blaze advanced to the Spring Championship to face the regular season champion Sharks. The league’s top goal scorer, Anthony Botti, began the game on a tear, scoring 4 goals in the first period. The Blue Blaze would use veterans Marli Reynolds and Nathan Gomez to slow down Botti after his big first period, holding him to two goals the rest of the game.

Late in the third period, the Blue Blaze were trailing by three, until Samuel McLeane scored on a penalty shot and then scored on a breakaway just moments later. That made it a one-goal game heading into the final shift. Ethan Menne and Botti both scored empty-net goals in the final minute to seal a 13-10 victory for the Sharks.

Following the game, the Jr. StreetKings awarded each team their respective trophies and gave special recognition to a Most Valuable Player at each level. Hayden Chrestman (first line), Hatcher Wenner (second line) and Anthony Botti (third line) were the MVP’s this season, as they showed great skill and teamwork throughout the entire spring season.

The Jr. StreetKings Youth Roller Hockey Program introduces area youth and their families to the world of hockey. It develops physical skills, self-confidence, sportsmanship, and teamwork within the context of exciting recreational events.

The Jr. StreetKings league is under the supervision of the Mississippi RiverKings and is made possible through generous sponsorships from community partners. In addition to the generosity of our team sponsors, Noah’s Gift was gracious enough to sponsor the league for the entire 2014 and 2015 year. Noah’s Gift is an endowed fund at the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi, created to inspire and reward deserving young people with the gift of an extraordinary experience. The Noah’s Gift Memorial 5K Run-Walk-Skate will take place on October 31, 2015. Registration is open and can be found at www.racesonline.com.
