Sharks Atop Standings Heading into Postseason

HERNANDO, Miss.— It took the last meeting of the season between the Gladiators and Sharks to find out who would receive a bye into the Jr. StreetKings’ Fall Championship, while the Stars looked to pick up some momentum heading into their first-round playoff matchup.

Game one featured the battle between the first place Gladiators (7-3-1) and the second place Sharks (6-3-1). The Sharks carried a 7-5 lead into halftime behind a pair of goals by Ethan Lyons, while Zaylie Bynum’s goal extended her scoring streak to five games.

The quick scoring continued throughout the second half, especially for Lance Martin, who found the back of the net twice to keep the game close. With less than a minute remaining, Ethan Elkins scored his fourth goal of the season to give the Sharks the lead and a 13-12 victory. With the win, the Sharks (7-3-1) locked up the regular season championship.

In the final game of the regular season, the Sharks (8-3-1) looked to continue their nine-game undefeated streak as they faced the Stars (2-9). Ethan Lyons broke the scoreless tie with a goal near the halfway point of the first half. First liners, Carson Middleton and Noah May each lit the lamp to stretch the lead to 5-2 going into intermission.

The Sharks’ Colton Robbins found the back of the net for the first time in the second half and the Davis brothers each added points for the Stars as they attempted a comeback against the league’s leaders. However, the Sharks’ defense proved to be too stiff and their undefeated streak continued, knocking off the Stars 8-3.

The Stars and Gladiators battle on Thursday, September 25 for the opportunity to face the Sharks in the championship game on Saturday, September 27. Following the championship game, the Jr. StreetKings are invited to enjoy pizza, music, and open skate until 1 p.m.
