RiverKings win streak ends in Louisiana

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana IceGators (21-16-7) scored a goal in each period and Marco De Fillipo stopped 26 shots to beat the Mississippi RiverKings (25-16-2), 3-0, Thursday night at the Cajundome. The loss halted the RiverKings winning streak at nine games.

Louisiana took the lead seven minutes into the first period when Bret Peppler tapped in a pass at the right post. Tyler Klein took the initial shot from the slot, which went wide left, but Shawn McNeil was there behind the net to send it to Peppler, who finished it off for a 1-0 lead.

The IceGators took a two-goal lead early in the second period. Adam Stuart skated around the net into the left corner, then sent a pass in front and Chris Wilson deflected it past Peter Di Salvo for a 2-0 lead at 2:23.

The RiverKings hit two posts in the second and pressed in the third, firing 13 shots on goal, but De Fillipo stopped all of them. He robbed Andrew Randazzo on what was a wide open net by going from post-to-post and also stopped several other opportunities in the crease. Jake Hauwswirth added an empty-net goal with one minute to play for a 3-0 final.

Notes: The RiverKings nine-game winning streak was tied for the fourth longest in franchise history… Peter Di Salvo’s shutout streak ended after 184:45… The RiverKings were held without a power play the entire game for the first time this season.
