RiverKings take early lead, get point in Peoria

PEORIA, ill. - The Mississippi RiverKings (26-15-9) took a lead into the third period and walked out of Peoria with a point as they fell to the Peoria Rivermen (35-12-3) 3-2 in overtime on Friday night.

After a scoreless first period, the RiverKings tallied a pair of goals in a 62-second span to go on top. Cullen Bradshaw collected a rebound on the power play and beat Rivermen netminder Kyle Rank to go up 1-0. Ryan Marcuz added to the lead on a shot that trickled through the legs of Rank just over a minute later to put the RiverKings ahead 2-0.

With just over two minutes to play in the second, Peoria got one back. Dave Pszenyczny's shot from the blueline on the power play beat goaltender Peter Di Salvo to bring the Rivermen within one going into the third.

Late in the third, the Rivermen tied the game. Ben Power deflected a wrist shot past Di Salvo with under three minutes to go in the third period to force overtime.

Just 44 seconds into overtime, Pszenyczny capitalized on a loose puck in the low slot as he lifted a shot to the back of the net as Peoria took the first of the weekend's back-to-back games.

Peter Di Salvo (12-4-4) took the loss after stopping 29 of 32 shots against. Kyle Rank (20-6-3) stopped 27 of 29 shots against in the win.

The RiverKings scored once on five power play opportunities, while Peoria capitalized on one of four chances with the man advantage.
