RiverKings streak snapped in Pensacola

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- The Mississippi RiverKings (7-4-0) made a push late, but fell to the Pensacola Ice Flyers (3-4-3) 2-1 on Wednesday night in Pensacola.

The Ice Flyers got the scoring started midway through the first period. With Anthony Conti in the penalty box for goaltender interference, Nick McParland took a pass and wristed a shot past Peter Di Salvo to put Pensacola ahead 1-0.

Pensacola extended their lead early in the second. Patrick Megannety took a pass from Louis Belisle and rifled a shot through traffic that slipped past a diving Di Salvo to give the Ice Flyers a 2-0 lead just under six minutes into the second.

In the third, the RiverKings cut into the deficit. Mike Moran collected a bouncing puck at the right circle and wristed a shot past a sprawling Matt Zenzola to bring the RiverKings within one. The RiverKings had a late power play, but the Ice Flyers held on for the 2-1 decision.

Peter Di Salvo (3-1-0) took the loss after stopping 36 of 38 shots against. Matt Zenzola (2-1-2) stopped 28 of 29 shots against.

The RiverKings converted on one of four power play opportunities, while holding the Ice Flyers to one for three with the man-advantage.

The RiverKings return to the ice on Friday night as they travel to Columbus to take on the Cottonmouths at 6:30 p.m. The RiverKings will return to the Landers Center on Saturday night to take on the visiting Knoxville Ice Bears for the annual Dachshund Dash.
