RiverKings sign rookies Turgeon, Nowakowski

SOUTHAVEN, Miss - Mississippi RiverKings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Derek Landmesser announced today that the team has signed rookie forwards Daniel Turgeon and Brandon Nowakowski for training camp. Terms and conditions were not released.

Turgeon, 23, spent the 2013-14 season with SUNY-Buffalo State (SUNYAC) where he tallied 27 points (12g, 15a) in 25 games. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Colorado native was named to the All-SUNYAC Second Team in his one season with Buffalo State.

"Daniel is a big forward who skates well and had success in college," Landmesser said. "I am looking forward to seeing him make the transition to pro hockey."

"I'm looking forward to experiencing pro hockey and seeing what the players do on a day-to-day basis to remain at that level," Turgeon said.

Nowakowski, 24, finished his four-year collegiate career with the College of St. Scholastica in Minnesota. The Calgary, Alberta native finished his senior season with 29 points (16g, 13a) in 28 games. In 101 games during his career, the 5-foot-10, 190-pound Nowakowski amassed 81 points (44g, 37a). He also finished his career with a plus-20 rating.

"Brandon is another player who has had a very successful college career," Landmesser said. "He brings a very high battle and compete level and is a very solid two-way player."

"I'm really excited about coming to camp this year and looking forward to trying out for a spot on this team," Nowakowski said. "It would be a great honor to be a part of the RiverKings organization come the 2014-15 season."

The RiverKings open their 2014-15 quest for the President's Cup on October 24 and 25 at the Landers Center in Southaven, Miss.
