RiverKings sign rookies Coatta, Constantine

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – The Mississippi RiverKings, the longest continually operating professional sports franchise in the greater Memphis area, and Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Derek Landmesser have announced today that they have signed rookie forwards Sam Coatta and Mark Constantine for training camp. Terms and conditions were not released.

Constantine, 23, played his last four seasons at SUNY-Plattsburgh, where he had 73 points (34g, 39a) in 97 career games. He increased his point totals every season at SUNY-Plattsburgh. Constantine was a teammate of current RiverKings defenseman Mike Grace for two seasons from 2011 to 2013.

"Mark is a skilled offensive player," said Landmesser. "He is coming off a very good four-year college career at SUNY-Plattsburgh."

The Voorhees, New Jersey native finished with career-highs in goals (10), assists (14) and points (24) his senior season.

"I'm very excited and honored to receive this opportunity in my hockey career," said Constantine. "I'm looking forward to becoming another asset to an already winning team."

Coatta, 25, joins the RiverKings after a four-year career at Union College, where he won a National Championship with the Dutchmen in 2014. In 141 career games, the Minnetonka, Minnesota native posted 31 points (14g, 17a). During the Dutchmen's run to the National Championship in 2013-14, the 5-foot-9 forward registered career-highs in goals (5), assists (6) and points (11). He was an alternate captain last season. Before joining Union College, Coatta played two seasons with the USHL's Sioux Falls Stampede.

"Sam is a very solid two-way player," said Landmesser. "He has a high hockey IQ, and also comes from a very good program. I am looking forward to having both players and seeing what they can do in a RiverKings jersey."

The Mississippi RiverKings are proud to be the longest, continually operating sports franchise in the Memphis area, as they begin their 24th season in 2015. The home opener is scheduled for Friday, October 23 at the Landers Center.
