SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - The Mississippi RiverKings (0-1-0) had chances throughout their home opener, but fell to the Louisiana IceGators (2-0-0) 2-0.

The IceGators got on the board first late in the opening frame. With Tyler Melancon in the box for hooking, Jeff Grant took a Jake Trask pass and beat Dan McWhinney to put the visitors ahead 1-0.

In the second, the RiverKings had an opportunity to tie it, but Keifer Smiley stopped Devin Mantha's breakaway opportunity to keep the 'Gators ahead by one. Later in the second, Jason Cohen picked up his third goal in three games to give Louisiana the 2-0 victory.

Dan McWhinney (0-1-0) took the loss after stopping 27 of 29 shots against. Keifer Smiley (1-0-0) stopped all 22 shots against to pick up a shutout in his first start of the season.

The RiverKings hit the road next weekend to take on the Peoria Rivermen. Catch the action at Old Style BBQ for both nights beginning at 7:15 p.m.
