RiverKings Set for Final Week of Regular Season

WEEK RECAP: The RiverKings began their week on Tuesday night with a win in their final meeting against the Columbus Cottonmouths of the season. During the 3-2 win, the RiverKings recorded their tenth shorthanded goal of the season thanks to Todd Hosmer. A few days later, the RiverKings were back at it with a home and home set against the Mississippi Surge. Friday night's game the Surge took control with two goals in the second and third to win on the road 5-1. The RiverKings exacted revenge with a two goals in the third period to steal a 3-1 win.

RIVERKINGS: Winners of three of their last five, the RiverKings face their final two games of the 2013-14 season this weekend. 

  • With 601 first period goals this season, the RiverKings have scored the second-most goals to open the game in the league.
  • The RiverKings are one of two teams with a perfect 8-0-0 when leading after two periods on the road. 
  • Home ice has its advantages for the RiverKings who are 3-1-1 in their last five at the Landers Center. The team has given up the second-fewest goals at home in the league.

ICE BEARS: The RiverKings welcome in the Knoxville Ice Bears for the team's final home game of the regular season. Friday night's game will be the sixth and final meeting between the two teams this season and the RiverKings currently hold the edge 3-1-1.

  • The Ice Bears, who are 3-1-1 in their last five road games including a win over the RiverKings in overtime, conclude their road schedule on Friday night.
  • The Ice Bears come into the final week of the season with the worst power play unit in the league, scoring just 27 times in their 220 man-advantage opportunities.
  • Struggles on the road continue for the Ice Bears, who have made it through the first period with the lead only six times in their 26 games away from Knoxville Civic Coliseum.

SURGE: The RiverKings wrap up the 2013-14 season with their ninth meeting against the Surge.

  • Unable to clinch the eighth and final spot of the playoffs with a win on Sunday, the Surge can lock up a spot in the postseason with a victory this week.
  • The Surge have one win in their last ten games and have been outscored by their opponents 38-21.
  • The Surge will play their two final games of the season at home and have a 10-14-2 record in the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
  • With the worst penalty kill unit at home in the league, the Surge have given up six power play goals in their last five on their own ice.

TURTLE SNAPS: Todd Hosmer had his five-game point streak broken on Friday against the Surge and has points in nine of his first 12 games since returning to the RiverKings on February 21. ...Andrew Randazzo had his six-game assist streak broken on Saturday night in Biloxi and leads RiverKings defense with 29 assists on the year. ...Mike Grace has four assists in his last five games.
