RiverKings Scrimmage with Strayhorn Elementary's TAGS Program

SARAH, Miss.: RiverKings’ mascot, RiverThing, accompanied forwards Benjamin Rubin and Michael Beaudry to Strayhorn Elementary on Tuesday, November 16 as a part of the “Sticks are for Kids” community development program.

Rubin and Beaudry presented the group of 40 students, ranging from grade 2 to 6, with the basics of hockey including stick handling, shooting, and safety. The students were eager to ask questions of the two RiverKings before taking to the gym floor to test their new learned skills. Following the games, the children were presented with a few gifts from the RiverKings and got autographs from the players and RiverThing.

Nikki Grant, TAGS teacher, said, “The kids had a blast with the RiverKings, RiverThing, and the hands-on lesson in hockey! Although most had never experienced hockey before, they were aggressive to get the puck and shoot. Thanks to Michael and Benjamin for taking time out of their busy schedule to spend a few hours with us!
