RiverKings score late, fall in a shootout to Knoxville

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - The Mississippi RiverKings (9-2-1) scored a third-period goal to tie the game at one, but the Knoxville Ice Bears (5-8-2) scored four goals in a nine-round shootout to snap the RiverKings home winning streak at five and take game two of their home-and-home series 2-1.

The Ice Bears got on the board early in the first. Todd Hosmer took a pass from Trever Hertz in the slot and ripped a one-time shot past Peter Di Salvo and give Knoxville the 1-0 lead 5:25 into the first.

Neither team found the back of the net in the second period, but the RiverKings tied the game at one midway through the third. With Knoxville's Brad Pawlowski serving a two-minute penalty for cross-checking, Tim Boyle blasted a slap shot through traffic and beat Bryan Hince to tie the game at one at the 7:20 mark. Both netminders held their opposing offenses at bay in the remaining 13 minutes to force overtime.

After a scoreless five-minute overtime, the game headed into a shootout. The Ice Bears scored twice in their first three shots with Jake Flegel and Doug Reid finding the back of the net before Ian Young and Dean Willmott tied the game at two heading into the final shooters. Josh Cousineau beat Di Salvo in what looked to be the game-winner, but Ben Rubin lifted the puck over Hince to force sudden death. After each team was unsuccessful twice, Brad Pawlowski gave Knoxville the edge and Bryan Hince stopped Sam Higgins to give Knoxville their first win in seven games.

Peter Di Salvo (5-2-1) stopped 23 of 24 shots against in the loss. Bryan Hince (4-4-1) picked up the win after stopping 38 of 39 shots against. The RiverKings were 1-5 with the man advantage while holding Knoxville 0-6.
