RiverKings Rock Rivermen, 5-1

PEORIA, Ill. - RiverKings jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they took out the Rivermen, 5-1 at the Peoria Civic Center. Dillan Fox continued his torrid pace by netting a goal just 1:25 into the game. Coming hard up the right wing boards, Fox cut to the middle and ripped a wrist-shot through traffic that beat Peoria netminder Eric Levine to give the RiverKings an early goal on the road.

Fox wasn’t done there as a little over six minutes later he would get his third multi-goal game of the season. Bryan Arneson, returning to the lineup for his first time since November 18th, got the break on a two-on-one with Fox trailing on his right. Arneson hit Fox with a saucer pass that found the back of the net and with 12:09 left to go in the second, the RiverKings stood tall with a 2-0 lead. More scoring for the gold and black came in the second period this time with the man advantage. Newcomer Vojtech Zemlick, who assisted on Fox’s first goal of the night, was set up at the point and blasted a shot that was tipped in front by Artur Drindrozhik and hopped over the shoulder of Levine. RiverKings left the ice at the conclusion of the second period with a 3-0 lead.

Fresh out in the third, Peoria decided to make a goaltender swap, replacing Levine with Storm Phaneuf. The newly added netminder would only play 3:11 before a collision off the side of the net with the RiverKings Shane Bennett left the goalie on his back, unable to put any weight on his left leg. Enter Levine for the second time of the night, and the Rivermen would get their first of the game shortly after. Mike Gurtler, stationed out front tipped a shot over the outstretched arm of Tyler Green, and suddenly the Rivermen were back in business, 3-1, with 18:52 left to go in the third period. A full seven minutes would tick off the clock before the RiverKings sealed the game with a two-on-one break started by Ryan Marcuz. His speed up the right wing board left Taylor Pryce open to the left where and a Marcuz backhand-saucer pass found Pryce who sniped a shot home and gave the RiverKings a 4-1 lead. Just for good measure, the RiverKings would add one more, this time by Pijus Rulevicius to cap off the win, 5-1 over the Rivermen.

All three RiverKings and Rivermen were played at Peoria Civic Center, with the RiverKings leading the season series 2-1. Next up for the black and gold, the Pensacola Ice Flyers invade Planters Bank Ice at Landers Center tomorrow night for Holiday Luau.
