WEEKEND RECAP: The RiverKings finished the weekend 1-2-0 against three different opponents in their second three-in-three of the season. The holiday break was cut short for the team as they packed their bags and headed to Biloxi on Thursday, stealing a 5-2 win. Leo Thomas kicked off the scoring for the RiverKings as they improved to 9-1-1 on the year when scoring the game’s first goal. After the Surge shot back with two of their own, the RiverKings posted four unanswered goals. Todd Hosmer recorded his second hat trick of the season with two goals on the power play. After the game, the team headed home to welcome Pensacola for their second meeting of the season. In another back and forth battle between the two teams, the Ice Flyers jumped out with the 1-0 lead. Four minutes later, the RiverKings responded with a goal of their own by Matt Whitehead to tie the game after one. In the second it was all Pensacola, who registered two goals and outshot the RiverKings 15-7. In the second, the RiverKings fought back to cut the lead in half with Whitehead’s second of the game. The momentum was short lived for the RiverKings, who gave up two goals two minutes apart, losing to the Ice Flyers for the second time this season. The 2013 calendar year came to an end with a trip to Louisiana Saturday night. The IceGators scored the game’s first goal on the power play midway through the first. The top line of Thomas, Hosmer and Whitehead connected, scoring the second period’s only goal, to tie the game up. After the RiverKings killed off a penalty for the second that extended to the third, the IceGators scored the game winner on a goal by Matt Robertson.

HOSMER IS ON FIRE: Left winger Todd Hosmer continues to produce for the RiverKings and has points in 10 of his last 12 games. The Scarborough, ONT native, has 10 points in his last five games including six goals.

LIGHTING THE LAMP: The RiverKings hit the back of the net 20 times in their past five games; their best five game stretch of the season. Prior to last weekend's matchup in Knoxville, the RiverKings averaged just 2.79 goals per game, but increased that total to 3.04..

COOLING ANTZ: The RiverKings ring in the new year with two games against the Fayetteville FireAntz at home this weekend. The FireAntz play four games this week, including one Monday and Tuesday night against Knoxville and Huntsville respectively. The 'Antz will look to turn things around offensively as they come into play this week with a league-fewest 51 goals scored. The team is currently riding a two game losing streak with losses to the Bloomington Thunder over the weekend.

SCORING EARLY AND OFTEN: The FireAntz are 6-0-1 when scoring the game’s first goal, but must build off the lead if they want a chance to win. The team is just 4-3-2 in one goal games but is 4-1-0 in 3-goal games this season.
