RiverKings pepper Genoe, fall 4-2 to Huntsville

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - The Mississippi RiverKings (15-9-6) threw 40 shots on Kevin Genoe, but it was the Huntsville Havoc (16-13-2) who took two points with a 4-2 victory on Tuesday morning in front of 5,884 students, teachers and chaperones for the second Belhaven University Face Off Field Trip of the season.

The Havoc jumped out to a two-goal lead late in the first period. John McGinnis took the puck out of the left-hand corner into the slot and buried it over Garrett Sheehan to give Huntsville a 1-0 lead 11:43 into the opening frame. Just over 90 seconds later the Havoc added a second goal when Jeremy Beirnes found Jackson Brewer on an odd-man rush who beat Sheehan to put Huntsville up 2-0.

The teams traded goals early in the second period. Mark Pustin capitalized on a Huntsville turnover and wristed a shot past the blocker of Kevin Genoe to cut the deficit to one 2:39 into the second. But Bo Driscoll found the back of the net less than three minutes later to give the Havoc a two-goal lead once again.

Just past the midway point of the second, the RiverKings came within one once again. With the Havoc in the midst of a change, Sheehan's long pass to Donald Olivieri set up a three-on-one and Olivieri fed Troy Polino who beat Genoe five-hole at the 12:25 mark of the middle frame to cut the deficit to 3-2.

In the third, the Havoc added an insurance marker early. Scott Henegar's unassisted goal gave the Havoc a 4-2 victory and they held on to win by two.

Garrett Sheehan (1-5-4) stopped 28 of 32 shots against in the loss. Kevin Genoe (12-10-0) turned aside 38 of 40 shots against in the win.

The RiverKings were scoreless on three power play opportunities, while Huntsville was scoreless on a pair of man-advantage chances.
