WEEKEND RECAP: The RiverKings took one of two over the weekend while on the road, visiting Huntsville and Biloxi. In Friday night’s game, the RiverKings fell behind early and were unable to gain much momentum falling to the Havoc. After a scoreless first period, the Havoc took control, scoring four unanswered goals, two in the second and two in the third. The RiverKings registered their first goal of the game five minutes into the third period. With tempers beginning to flare, the RiverKings registered the game’s final goal at the 17-minute mark and fell to the Havoc 4-2. After the game, the team headed back on the bus to Biloxi for Saturday night’s tilt against the Surge. The back-and-forth game went into the third period without a goal, but the Surge grabbed the lead with a goal by Kyle Fletcher early in the final frame. The RiverKings rebounded with two goals of their own, both by Devin Mantha, just three minutes apart from each other to steal the win on the road.

ROSTER MOVES: It was a busy week for the RiverKings, who lost league-leading goal scorer Todd Hosmer to a call-up to the ECHL’s Greenville Warriors. A few days later, the RiverKings bolstered their blue-line adding Daniel Sobotka to the line-up after spending 12 games with the St. Charles Chill. Returning one player, the Chill picked up RiverKings forward Charles Lachance.

HOME KILLING: The RiverKings boast the best home penalty-kill squad in the league and have killed off 21 of the last 30.

CHOMPING AT THE BIT: The IceGators return to the Landers Center for the first time since beating the RiverKings in their season opener, 2-0. Losers of four of their last five, the IceGators find themselves in second place and only a point up on the RiverKings. In Friday night’s loss to the Surge, Louisiana scored two power play goals, a department they have struggled with in recent games. The league’s top power play squad has gone 3-21 with the man-advantage in their last five games.

SCORING OFTEN: The IceGators boast the second-best offense in the league, scoring 103 goals this season with help from three of the league’s top ten goal scorers. Shawn McNeil, Matt Robertson and Chris Wilson have combined for 44 goals and 55 assists.

KNOXVILLE: The Ice Bears visit the RiverKings on the back end of a three-in-three this weekend. Knoxville is 2-3-0 in their last five games including a two-game losing streak. In their last game against the Cottonmouths, the Ice Bears let a lead slip away in the second period, giving up three unanswered goals.

FAMILIAR FACES: The RiverKings and Ice Bears swapped forwards on Monday, with the RiverKings sending Tom Craig and Corey Fulton to Knoxville for Phil Bronner and Brett Valliquette. It will be the first time the two teams square off since the trade.

MAKE OR BREAK PERIOD: The second period has been a critical period for Ice Bears, who are 10-3-0 when leading after two. When the team is tied or losing after 40 minutes, Knoxville is a combined 2-9-2.

ELVIS NIGHT/PACK THE HOUSE FOR ST. JUDE! Get out the guitar and bust out the Jailhouse Rock as we celebrate the original the King during Friday night’s game with commemorative jerseys that will be auctions off after the game. It is also ‘Pack the House Night’ with five dollars off any blue, gold or red-level ticket with three dollars of each ticket purchased benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

OVARIAN CANCER AWARENESS: The RiverKings and the Ovarian Cancer Awareness Foundation are partnering up for a night of awareness with door prizes and tips throughout the night. Proceeds from the tickets purchased will go to the foundation to help raise awareness.
