RiverKings fall short against Ice Bears in Final Exhibition

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. –  The RiverKings fell short in their home exhibition game losing 5-4 to the Knoxville Ice Bears at the Landers Center. A game in which the RiverKings would have a lead, lose it and then take it again for almost half the game but could not hold on to it towards the second half.

Mark Petaccio would start the scoring in the first on a shot that would get past goalie Nick Kohn with an assist from Matt Harrington. The Ice Bears would answer back after a breakout pass on their power play would free up Doug Reid for a goal from Jake Flegel and Mitchell Vandergunst.

The second would be a penalty filled affair and an early goal on the power play by Matt Harrington from Ryan Marcuz and Mark Petaccio would give the RiverKings back the lead. It would not last for long as Danny Cesarz would answer right back from Jake Rivera and Kyle Powell. A high sticking call on Nick Wright would put the RiverKings down a man but a shorthanded goal from Cullen Bradshaw would put them back in front. Things would change after the goal as a kneeing call on CJ Houde and then a hooking on Tyler Barr would put the game to 4 on 4 and then Corey Hale and Andrew Bonazza would both score goals to give the Ice Bears their first lead.

The RiverKings would answer back quick in the third tying the game on a hard earned goal from Cullen Bradshaw from Todd Hosmer and Dan Olivieri. It would not last long as 2 minutes later Danny Cesarz would score is second and game winning goal. The RiverKings would make a push to try and tie it with an empty net and would get a six on four advantage after a Rich Ledy power play but would not be able to get the equalizer.

The RiverKings now look forward to the regular season and return to the Landers Center on Friday, October 21 to take on the Evansville Thunderbolts at 7:30 p.m. Groups of 10 or more purchasing Opening Night tickets before October 14 will receive free tickets to a future game.
