RiverKings Fall in Finale to Pensacola

Pensacola, Fla. - The Mississippi RiverKings scored first, but three unanswered Pensacola goals did the RiverKings in as they fell in their season finale 3-1 to the Ice Flyers.

A scoreless first period was not without excitement. Gabriel Boutin-Gagnon and Ryan Hohl dropped the gloves 2:09 into the first period before Justin MacDonald and Kevin Brojek followed suit six minutes later.

In the second period, Deven Stillar got the offense going as he converted on Ken Selby's pass on a two-on-one to give the RiverKings a 1-0 lead just 3:58 into the middle frame.

Matthew Robertson tied it up for Pensacola at the 13:21 mark on passes from Tyler Soehner and Hohl and the team's entered the second intermission tied at one.

The third period was all Pensacola. Andrew Harrison scored the go-ahead-goal, unassisted, at the 14:12 mark. Ryan Corry netted the insurance goal on a shot from the point that beat Scott Darling to give Pensacola the 3-1 victory.

Scott Darling (15-17-2) took the loss after stopping 50 of 53 shots against. Jesse Kallechy (6-2-1 with Pensacola) tallied the win after stopping 19 of 20 shots.

With the Louisiana loss and the Columbus win, the RiverKings face-off against the Knoxville Ice Bears in the first round of the playoffs. The 'Kings play their first home game of the playoffs on Friday, March 30 at 7:05. All seats are just $10 anywhere in the building.
