RiverKings Extend Winning Ways; Knock Off Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE. Ala. -- The Mississippi RiverKings (21-23-8) extended their winning streak to three games with a 4-1 victory over the Huntsville Havoc (19-25-6) on Saturday night in Huntsville.

The 'Kings did not waste any time getting on the board. Tom Craig put the first shot of the game past Dan McWhinney just ten seconds into the action to put the visitors ahead 1-0. 

After a scoreless second period, the RiverKings extended their lead. Kyle Lundale’s shot made it through traffic and beat McWhinney to put the ‘Kings ahead by one. Then, at the 8:49 mark, Darrell Stoddard picked up his 100th goal of his professional career on a redirect from Kevin Willer to beat McWhinney five-hole to put the ‘Kings ahead by three.

But Huntsville cut the lead to two minutes later. With a scrum in front of Matt Krahn, Paul D’Agostino shoved the puck to the back of the net as the ‘Kings held onto a 3-1 lead midway through the third.

With six minutes to go, the visitors capped the victory. Kevin Willer picked up his pushed a rebound past McWhinney to give the ‘Kings a 4-1 victory for their third straight win.

The victory cuts the ‘Kings magic number to two. Any combination of two RiverKings wins and Augusta regulation losses puts the ‘Kings in the playoffs.

Matt Krahn (13-13-4) picked up the victory after stopping 31 of 32 shots against. Dan McWhinney (18-19-3) turned aside 33 of 37 shots in the loss.

The RiverKings hit the ice next Friday night in Biloxi against the Mississippi Surge. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. with all the action airing live on Sports 56, 87.7FM and the America One Sports Network.
