BOSSIER CITY, La. -- A Mississippi RiverKings lineup that did not include returning skaters Darrell Stoddard, Matt Whitehead or Kyle Lundale or goaltender David Wilson, shut down a Louisiana Ice Gators team that featured a lineup with six returning skaters, and lit the lamp three times in a 3-1 victory at the CenturyLink Center in Bossier City, La. Saturday night.

The RiverKings got on the board early in the first period as Justin Giesbrecht ripped a slap shot over the glove of Garret Tinkham through traffic just as Louisiana's penalty expired to give the visitors the first goal of the game. Richard Ryan and Mark Thorburn assisted.

Louisiana battled right back with a goal of their own 30 seconds later when Matt Miller's quick wrist-shot beat Matthew Krahn five-hole to tie the game at one after 20 minutes of play.

Midway through the second period, both teams swapped out netminders as Dustin Carlson replaced Krahn for the RiverKings and Ryan Klingensmith came in for Tinkham. The RiverKings wasted no time testing the new netminder and it paid off as Nick Walsh's wrist shot beat Klingensmith low, glove side to give the 'Kings a 2-1 lead with just under six minutes left to play in the second period.

The third period saw a pair of tilts as Kevin Fukala and Harry Mahesh dropped the gloves just before Anthony Pototschnik and Eric Tallent as the two heavyweights battle for roster spots on opening day.

Todd Hosmer thought he sealed the deal with 56 seconds left in regulation, but was ruled offsides. Thirty seconds later, Hosmer struck again, this time it counted, as the 'Kings fought off the Ice Gators by the final score of 3-1.

Matthew Krahn stopped 14 of 15 shots and Dustin Carlson turned aside all 17 shots faced in the win. Garrett Tinkham blocked six of seven shots against and Ryan Klingensmith went 13 of 14 in the loss.

The RiverKings conclude their exhibition schedule tomorrow afternoon against the Huntsville Havoc at the Landers Center at 3:05 p.m. Great seats are still available and any seat in the building is just $10.
