LAFAYETTE, La. -- The Mississippi RiverKings lost a three-goal lead late in the third period and ultimately fell in a shootout to the Louisiana IceGators 5-4 on Saturday night.

The RiverKings came out flying in the first period, tallying three goals. Todd Hosmer scored on the powerplay to pickup the RiverKings first powerplay goal of the season as he redirected an Andrew Randazzo shot past Riley Gill to put the 'Kings up one. Patrick Gaul added the second mark with a great individual effort behind the 'Gators net to score on a wrap-around at the 16:18 mark. Matt Whitehead completed the scoring in the first on a breakaway shot from his knees to send the RiverKings to the lockerroom up 3-0 after twenty.

The teams traded goals during the second as Louisiana cut the 'Kings lead to two at the Matthew Robertson beat David Wilson at the 4:59 mark. The 'Kings responded with a Matt Whitehead goal and an outlet pass by David Wilson to give the visitors a three-goal lead heading into the third.

The third period belonged to the IceGators as they scored three goals to tie it up. Marc-Andre Carre scored on a tip-in pass from Shawn McNeil to cut the RiverKings lead to two at the 6:32 mark. Denny Kearney then scored the next two goals for the 'Gators with Tyler Lyon assisting the first goal at the 11:53 mark and Robert Short and Lyon on the assists for the second at the 15:58 mark to send the game to overtime.

Neither team could convert in the overtime period forcing a shootout. Robert Short converted on the 'Gators first shootout attempt to put the home-team up by one. After Wilson and Gill traded saves, Kyle Lundale tied the shootout at one on the fourth 'Kings' shot. But on the fifth, and final, shoout attempt, Marc-Andre Carre beat Wilson high, glove side with a backhand to give the 'Gators the 5-4 win.

David Wilson (1-1-1) stopped 26 of 30 shots against in the loss. Riley Gill (5-1-0) turned 26 of 30 shots ahead in the win for the IceGators.
