RiverKings Drop Game to Ice Bears 3-0

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – It was a shutout loss for the Mississippi RiverKings (3-3-0) Saturday night as they fell 3-0 to the Knoxville Ice Bears (5-1-0) at the Landers Center. The RiverKings power play would have a tough night going 0-8 but the penalty kill would blank the Ice Bears as well. The second period would be when the Ice Bears would strike three times but those three would be enough. It would mark the end of a tough weekend for the RiverKings as they would drop 2 straight.

The first period would see both teams take 9 shots but neither team finding the back of the net as both netminders kept the score at zero. The RiverKings would get three opportunities on the power play but could not get a goal along with one for the Ice Bears with both teams penalty kills having good nights.

It would be a tough middle of the second period as the RiverKings would give up three goals to the Ice Bears. Doug Reid would get a shorthanded goal at the end of the RiverKings power play to give the lead to the Ice Bears, followed by goals from John Clewlow with assists from Travis Jeke and Doug Reid and Trever Hertz from Luke Sandler and Rich Ledy to make it a three goal game.

The third would see the RIverKings get a 5 on 3 opportunity on the power play and get what looked like their first goal of the night, but it would be disallowed because of goalie interference. A shot would hit crossbar as well for the RiverKings narrowly missing the net and foil one of their best scoring opportunities.

The RiverKing now look to next week for two games against the Fayetteville FireAntz at the Landers Center on Nov. 11 and 12. For tickets to the game and more information go to riverkings.com
