SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – The Mississippi RiverKings announced today that the team’s charitable contributions to the Mid-South reached nearly $60,000 in cash and merchandise, more than $100,000 in donated advertising, over 300 stuffed toys and 180 canned food items and 2,250 hours of volunteer work for the 2013-14 season.

“Giving back to the Mid-South community is part of the mission of this hockey team,” RiverKings’ President Robin Grindstaff Costa said. “While we take pride in the game won on the ice, it’s the off-ice contribution that makes this a winning organization.

The RiverKings hosted various fundraisers for area non-profit organizations throughout the season including Belhaven University’s Pack the House for St. Jude, Bott Radio Canned Food Drive Night benefiting Colonial Hills Food Pantry and the annual Teddy Bear Toss benefiting Toys for Tots with 95.3 the Rebel.

The 2013-14 Face Off Field Trips presented by Belhaven University on November 26 and January 28 saw over $20,000 raised for the DeSoto County Schools’ Superintendent’s Youth Leadership Council.

In the community, the RiverKings’ staff, players and mascot Sheldon the Turtle volunteered over 2,200 hours dedicated to non-profit organizations including the Jr. StreetKings Youth Roller Hockey League, the Baddour Center, LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, the Down Syndrome Association and Camp B.O.L.D.
