RiverKings complete summer trips to Camp B.O.L.D.

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – Mississippi RiverKings Head Coach Derek Landmesser visited Camp B.O.L.D. at Getwell Road United Methodist Church on Tuesday, July 21 in conjunction with the RiverKings "Sticks are for Kids" program. It was the fourth and final visit the RiverKings made to Camp B.O.L.D. this summer.

Camp B.O.L.D, sponsored by The Arc Northwest Mississippi, is a camp for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The camp strives to create a traditional camp environment for the campers by pairing each child with a middle or high school student counselor as their peer buddy for the week. They participate in daily camp activities together as a team. Each week new campers attend Camp B.O.L.D, with the age group of the camp increasing each week.

"Our partnership with the Mississippi RiverKings has been an amazing success this summer," said The Arc NWMS Executive Director and Camp Administrator Rebecca Treadway. "They visited camp all four weeks. Our campers were excited to interact with the coach and mascot."

Coach Landmesser taught the campers the proper way to hold a hockey stick and then ran stickhandling and shooting drills. RiverKings Head Athletic Trainer Rick Hanlon and Broadcaster Lukas Favale were also there to help with the drills. After Coach Landmesser's hockey demonstration, the campers were broken up into teams and played a game for the remaining time.

"Our campers enjoyed working on their hockey skills," said Treadway. "We look forward to their visit every year."

The Mississippi RiverKings are proud to be the longest, continually operating sports franchise in the Memphis area, as they begin their 24th season in 2015.
