RiverKings community involvement flourishes in 2014-15

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – The Mississippi RiverKings continued their strong tradition of putting the community first during the 2014-15 season through donations, mascot and player appearances and many fundraising efforts at home games.

"We take great pride in being active in the Mid-South," Director of Business Operations David Schmoll said. "Bringing a championship home is one of our goals, but we have a mission and responsibility to give back and connect with the greater Memphis community."

During the 2014-15 season, which runs from April 2014 to March 2015, the RiverKings organization took part in 154 community appearances, the most since at least the 2008-09 season. That included 60 appearances to local schools and camps where the RiverKings rolled out programs such as RiverKings Read, Sticks are for Kids and Checking Against Bullying.

Through the RiverKings Readers program presented by Belhaven University, the RiverKings helped facilitate over 150,000 hours of reading at 18 local schools. Nearly 8,000 students were involved in the RiverKings Readers program during the 2014-15 season.

The RiverKings also donated nearly $45,000 through ticket and merchandise donations to local non-profits and grants through fundraising tickets. A significant portion of that went to local non-profits that raised funds through the RiverKings fundraising program at home games. In total, 63 different organizations were the beneficiaries of a ticket and/or merchandise donation from the RiverKings that allowed those organizations to raise funds through silent auctions or other means at one of their events.
