SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- Mississippi RiverKings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Derek Landmesser announced today that the team has signed goaltender Dan McWhinney for the 2013-14 season. Terms and conditions were not released.

"I'm very excited to have Dan in a RiverKings jersey," Landmesser said. "He is an elite goaltender in our league who has won championships and knows what it takes to win."

McWhinney, 28, had nothing but positives to say about the organization that acquired him from Huntsville earlier this summer.

"Initially, there was a bit of shock, but I have only heard great things about organization and they have a great reputation around the league," McWhinney said. "I look forward to bring that championship experience and add leadership to this team."

The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native enters his eighth professional season in 2013-14. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound netminder appeared in 47 games with the Huntsville Havoc last season, tallying an 18-21-6 record with a 2.82 goals against average and a 91.8 save percentage. McWhinney won the SPHL's President's Cup in 2010 with the Havoc and an FHL's Commissioner's Cup in 2011 where he earned both Goaltender of the Year and Playoff MVP honors.

So if McWhinney is signed now, where does that leave Wilson? Thought he was on the safe list.
