SOUTHAVEN, Miss.-- Mississippi RiverKings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Derek Landmesser announced Friday that Darrell Stoddard has been named captain for the 2012-2013 season. Kyle Lundale, Matt Whitehead and Tyler Sheldrake, will serve as assistant captains.

"I’m excited to have all of these guys as captains for our hockey club,” said Landmesser. β€œThey all bring a lot to the table every night and I know they will be great leaders on and off the ice for us.”

This season marks number eight for Darrell Stoddard in a RiverKings jersey and the second season as head captain. The 5’11, 185 pound Reed Deer, Alberta native comes into 2012-2013 campaign with 217 points and over 1,000 penalty minutes in 382 games as a RiverKing player.

Accompanying Stoddard as assistant captains are returning players Kyle Lundale and Matt Whitehead. This is the second year for both players to hold the title as assistant captain. Lundale joins the RiverKings for season number two after a 26 point season last year. Whitehead also comes to the RiverKings for his second season after splitting time in Fayetteville (SPHL), Bloomington (CHL) and Kalamazoo (ECHL) for the 2011-2012 campaign.

Familiar face Tyler Sheldrake will also wear an β€œA” for the RiverKings. Sheldrake makes his return to the RiverKings after splitting time with Quad City (CHL) and Tulsa (CHL) for the 2011-2012 season.

The RiverKings kick off their 21st anniversary season at home against the Augusta RiverHawks on October 26 at 7:05 p.m. Single game tickets are on sale now on Ticketmaster.com and at the Landers Center Box Office.
