SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- Mississippi RiverKings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Derek Landmesser announced today that the team has signed veteran forward Leo Thomas for the 2013-14 season. Terms and conditions were not released.

"Leo will bring that championship experience with him to our locker room," Landmesser said. "He is a proven winner who knows what it takes to win. He has played at the next level and will provide the leadership on and off the ice that our younger players can learn from.

Thomas, 31, agreed with Landmesser's leadership assessment.

"I've played a lot of games and I'm excited to come in and bring a strong competitive attitude to this team," said Thomas. "I'm going to come in here, work hard and play solid two-way hockey that's going to help this team win games."

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound forward begins his 11th professional season in 2013-14. The Toronto, Ontario native has played in 625 career games and amassed 210 goals, 233 assists and 803 penalty minutes. Last season, Thomas split time between Pensacola (SPHL) and Bloomington (CHL). In 29 games with the Ice Flyers, he tallied 10 goals and 11 assists along with 40 penalty minutes. Thomas is the younger brother of former RiverKings center Kahlil Thomas who played for the team during their two championship seasons in 2002 and 2003.

The RiverKings open their 2013-14 quest for the President's Cup at home on October 26 against the Louisiana IceGators. Group tickets start at $8 and are available by contacting the RiverKings front office at 662-342-1755.
