SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- Mississippi RiverKings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Derek Landmesser announced Wednesday that the team has acquired the rights to veteran defenseman Matt Ridley from the Fayetteville FireAntz in exchange for the rights to forward Tyler Sheldrake.

"I'd like to thank 'Shelly' for everything he's done for this organization in the three seasons he spent here and I wish him all the best," Landmesser said. "In Ridley, we've acquired a big, highly skilled two-way defenseman who is going to add an element of offense to our back end."

Ridley, 24, enters his fourth professional season in 2014-15. The 6-foot-2, 212-pound defenseman appeared in 48 games last season with the Mississippi Surge and Fayetteville FireAntz, registering a combined 19 points (7G, 12A). The Kelowna, BC native also played in three games in the ECHL with Orlando and Gwinnett.

Sheldrake, 25, appeared in 46 games with the RiverKings last season and recorded nine points (4G, 5A) and 190 penalty minutes.

The RiverKings open their 2014-15 quest for the President's Cup on October 24 and 25 at the Landers Center in Southaven, Miss. Receive a ticket to both games that weekend starting at $17 and get a free t-shirt. Groups of 15 or more who purchase tickets will receive complimentary tickets to a future RiverKings home game.
