RiverKings acquire physical forward Vandergunst in trade with Roanoke

SOUTHAVEN, Miss.  The Mississippi RiverKings announced a trade today that has sent team veteran Todd Hosmer to the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs for forward Mitchell Vandergunst.

"We are thankful for Todd's contribution towards the team and the many years he has spent with this organization," Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Derek Landmesser said. "This was not an easy decision, but with four veterans on the roster, we had to make a move. We wish him the best of luck in his career in Roanoke."

Vandergunst, 22, began his rookie season this year with the Knoxville Ice Bears. The 6-foot-3, 201-pound forward earned two goals and two assists and amassed 69 penalty minutes in his time with Knoxville. The Exeter, Ontario native played a bulk of his junior hockey career with the Stratford Cullitons where he collected 22 Goals, 30 assists, and 349 penalty minutes.

Hosmer, 29, spent parts of four seasons with the team and holds numerous invidual records in the RiverKings' SPHL era, including the most goals scored (37, 2013-2014). The 6-foot-1, 215-pound veteran has played 10 games this season with three goals and two assists.
