SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- Usually it's only the shots that go in that count, but in 2014-15, the every shot on goal the Mississippi RiverKings take will raise money for local non-profit organizations.

The RiverKings' "Shots for a Cause" program will officially launch in October 2014 to benefit the RiverKings ReachOut Fund at the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi. The new community development partnership raises money for the team's non-profit partners based on the number of shots on goal taken by the team throughout the 2014-15 season.

"We wanted to do something different with how we connect our for-profit partners and our charitable efforts in the community," Director of Business Operations David Schmoll said. "We're excited about the enormous impact this can have in the Mid-South area."

Participating businesses and individuals may pledge to donate any monetary amount per shot on goal that the RiverKings take in the regular season or make a one-time donation. In the 2013-2014 season, the RiverKings ReachOut Fund supported the DeSoto County School System, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and Save1Pet, as well as a multitude of other various national and local organizations, distributing over $45,000 in donations.

To make a pledge, contact the RiverKings front office at 662-342-1755 or visit www.riverkings.com/shots-for-a-cause and fill out the form at the bottom of the page. All pledges to the RKRO Fund are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
