Pair of power play goals down RiverKings in Game 1

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers tallied a pair of power play goals in the second period as the Mississippi RiverKings fell in Game 1 of the SPHL Semifinals 4-1 in Pensacola on Thursday night.

After a scoreless first period, the Ice Flyers notched a pair of power play goals in the second. Jeremy Gates opened the scoring on a shot from the point that squeaked through the legs of goaltender Peter Di Salvo to put Pensacola up 1-0 just under five minutes into the middle period. The Ice Flyers added to their lead on a shot from Anthony Calabrese that got through traffic and slipped past Di Salvo to send Pensacola to the locker room up 2-0.

In the third, Pensacola added to their lead. With the RiverKings on the power play, Ryan Kesti converted on a two-on-one opportunity to go up 3-0 just 1:38 into the third period. Less than a minute later, Calabrese's shot bounced off of Joey Holka in front of Di Salvo and found it's way to the back of the net to give the Ice Flyers a 4-0 lead.

The RiverKings battled back midway through the third. Matt Harrington lifted a wrist shot over Ice Flyer netminder Matt Zenzola to cut the deficit to 4-1, but it was not enough as the Ice Flyers took Game 1, 4-1.

Peter Di Salvo took the loss after stopping 26 of 30 shots against. Matt Zenzola picked up the win after turning aside 24 of 25.
