WEEKEND RECAP: The RiverKings fell to third in the standings over the weekend after losing three straight. The weekend began on Thursday night with a 4-3 overtime loss at home against the Mississippi Surge that saw the RiverKings take a 2-1 lead into the final frame before the Surge tallied two quick goals to take a 3-2 lead. Paul Clancy’s goal from the point late in the third sent the game into overtime where Ian Boots scored the game-winner for the Surge. On Friday, the team traveled to Lafayette to take on the IceGators in a rematch from one week prior. The ‘Gators took a commanding 5-0 lead into the midway point of the game before Lucas LaBelle opened up the scoring for the RiverKings who went on to score three unanswered in the third, but could not complete the comeback, falling 5-4. Weather conditions postponed Saturday’s matchup with Pensacola to Sunday afternoon, where the Ice Flyers took an early lead and never looked back. Joe Caveney scored four goals and former RiverKing Corey Banfield had four helpers in an 8-4 Pensacola win.

WINNING BY A HAIR: The RiverKings have played in the most one-goal games among any team this season including four of their last five. The team is 9-5-1 in games decided by one goal.

PESKY GATORS: The IceGators head back to Southaven for a day game on Tuesday for the RiverKings second Face Off Field Trip of the season. The IceGators enter Tuesday’s game as winners of four of five against the RiverKings this season. The team is riding a two-game winning streak after snapping a three-game losing streak last Friday night. Chris Wilson leads the way for the ‘Gators with seven points (2G, 5A) in five games against the RiverKings.

SNAKES RATTLE INTO TOWN: After Friday night’s game in Louisiana the RiverKings head back home for a game Saturday night against the Columbus Cottonmouths. The Cottonmouths had their four-game winning streak broken by the IceGators on Saturday night. Columbus has no problem stealing wins on the road and although the team is a game under .500, the Snakes have a 9-8-1 record away from Columbus Civic Center.

SPECIAL TEAMS: The Cottonmouths hold the best road power play unit in the league, scoring 21 goals on 88 man-advantage opportunities. The offense does not slow down when down a man, scoring a league-leading nine shorthanded goals this season.

FACE-OFF FIELD TRIP:
The RiverKings welcome in elementary schools from across Desoto County and the Greater Memphis area for a day of fun with a 10:30 am game presented by Bellhaven University on Tuesday.

AWAY GAME WATCH PARTY: Join other RiverKings fans at Old Style BBQ to catch all the action while the team is away from the Landers Center all season long. The RiverKings take on Louisiana this Friday at 7:05 p.m.

LIBRARY NIGHT: Come out to Saturday night’s game in Southaven for Library Night. Donate a new or lightly used book and receive $2 off any regularly priced adult ticket. Donated books will benefit Horn Lake School Libraries.
