Mississippi’s Matt Harrington named Easton Player of the Week

HUNTERSVILLE, NC  – The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced Matt Harrington of the Mississippi RiverKings is the Easton Player of the Week for December 22-28.

Harrington scored three goals, including two game-winners, and added two assists in leading the RiverKings to a pair of wins last week.

On Tuesday, the North Port, FL native assisted on Matt Whitehead’s second period tally before scoring the only goal in the shootout as Mississippi edged Huntsville 2-1. Harrington came back on Saturday with a two-goal, one-assist outing in leading the RiverKings to a 4-3 shootout win over Louisiana. Harrington scored the tying goal midway through the third period before tallying the only goal in the shootout for the second straight night. Harrington’s strong play earned him a call-up to the ECHL, where he played in Wheeling’s 3-1 loss to South Carolina on Saturday.

Harrington, who is in his fourth professional season and third with the RiverKings, is tied for the team lead in goals with 10 and tied for second in the SPHL with three game-winners.

Also Nominated: Andrew Loewen, Columbus (1-0-0, 1.00 gaa, .965 save%), Kevin Murdock, Fayetteville (1-0-1, 1.88 gaa, .939 save%), Kevin Genoe, Huntsville (1-1-1, 1.63 gaa, .957 save%), Berkley Scott, Knoxville (3 gp, 5-3-8, +5, 1 gwg), Jason Cohen, Louisiana (3 gp, 1-2-3), Nick McParland, Pensacola (3 gp, 4-3-7, 2 gwg) and Steve Morra, Peoria (2 gp, 1-3-4, 1 shg).
