Mantha scores two in RiverKings road win

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Devin Mantha notched a pair of goals as the Mississippi RiverKings (30-20-3) picked up a 4-2 victory against the Columbus Cottonmouths (20-28-4) on Friday night in Columbus.

The RiverKings got on the board first late in the opening period. Robert Lindores' shot through traffic found its way past Columbus goaltender Mavric Parks to put the RiverKings ahead 1-0 with 5:20 left in the first.

In the second, the RiverKings tallied a pair to extend their lead. Devin Mantha extended the lead to two with his 21st marker of the season with a power play goal 10:03 into the middle frame. Less than three minutes later, Brant Sherwood, on the power play, deflected a Sam Higgins shot from the blueline past Parks to put the RiverKings ahead 3-0.

The Cottonmouths got on the board late in the second. Chad Brears ripped a shot past Peter Di Salvo for a power play goal that cut the RiverKings lead to 3-1. Off a faceoff, with Joe Sova in the box for slashing, Andy Bathgate wristed a shot to the back of the net slicing the RiverKings lead to one.

After a physical third period, Mantha notched his second goal of the game, an empty-netter, to give the RiverKings a 4-2 victory.

Peter Di Salvo (11-5-1) picked up the win after stopping 26 of 28 shots against. Mavric Parks (5-4-1) took the loss after turning aside 26 of 29 shots against.
