LAFAYETTE, La. -- Matt Whitehead scored his third goal in two nights, but the Mississippi RiverKings (14-8-2) fell to the Louisiana IceGators (16-7-2) on Saturday night 2-1 in Louisiana.

The IceGators got on the board midway through the first period. With Todd Hosmer in the penalty box for slashing, Kirk Byczynski's wrist shot beat Dan McWhinney, with traffic in front, to give Louisiana a 1-0 lead 10:42 into regulation.

In the second, the RiverKings tied it up. Matt Whitehead took a Hosmer pass and blasted it between the blocker and body of Matt Zenzola at the 6:39 mark to tie the game at one.

In the third, Louisiana took the lead. Matt Robertson scored his team-leading 16th goal of the season on a wrist shot that beat McWhinney blocker side to give the 'Gators a 2-1 lead. The IceGators then killed off a five-on-three and held off the RiverKings late push to take the game by the score of 2-1.

Dan McWhinney (7-6-0) stopped 19 of 21 shots in the loss. Matt Zenzola (10-3-1) picked up the victory after turning aside 23 of 24 shots against. The RiverKings we held 0-5 on the power play, while Louisiana went 1-3 with the man advantage.
