The Mississippi RiverKings (13-13-4) three-game home winning streak came to an end Tuesday night as they fell to the Louisiana Ice Gators (17-8-1) 1-0 in a four round shootout at the Lander's Center.
The RiverKings had scoring opportunities late in the game, but Riley Gill robbed Todd Hosmer with a glove save to push the game to overtime. With a scoreless sixty minutes, the game went into a 3-on-3 overtime. Neither teams converted on any chances in the extra minutes, forcing a shootout.
The Ice Gators were the first to convert in the shootout. Matt Robertson's shot went right over the glove of Wilson to net the first goal of the shootout in the third round. Mike MacDonald was not able to tie the game in the third round. Shawn McNeil sealed the deal in the next round when a dropping Wilson left a wide open net for McNeil. Patrick Gaul was the last shooter for the RiverKings but could not convert to force an extra round. McNeil's goal gave the Ice Gators a 1-0 win over the RiverKings and ended the three-game home winning streak for the RiverKings.
David Wilson (5-6-2) received the loss in the shutout saving 26 of 27 shots on net. Riley GIll (15-6-0) picked up his first shutout of the season saving all 38 shots on net in the win for Louisiana.
Following the game, the RiverKings auctioned off their specialty Elvis jerseys. The auctioned raised $8550.00 with a portion of the funds going to the Maddox Sports Advised Fund.
